The problem started when the family of Cordelia found out that their aunt passed away because she took many pills.(suicide) "She swallowed a bunch of pills and went for a walk along the highway." (14) The problem is personal because her great great aunt died and they believe her house is haunted. Cordelia doesn't want to stay in the house. She wants to leave because she is scared about what they are saying about her and the house. Cordelia and her family were planning to stay in the house for the summer but now Cordelia is scared of doing so. "And look what happened to her!" I said. "Exactly, I'm not staying." She didn't leave me anything." The "house" was a mental hospital. Cordelia doesn't want to stay in the house because she does not want anything bad to happen to her. They say the place is haunted, "We couldn't even see it online," I said. " The satellite image was all cloudy."(7) Cordelia changes throughout the story because she first was really happy to see the house her aunt left her. Throughout the story she became more cautious of her surroundings and what happened in her house. She went back to see the letters that her aunt wrote to her and see if there was anything strange about them. "I still have her letters. And I'm not being melodramatic. Did she leave a note?"(14)
