In the book The Dead Girls of Hysteria Hall by Katie Alender the main character is Cordelia Piven. She was named after aunt that recently passed away. Her aunt Cordelia passed away and left her house or more like a mansion. According to page 7 Cordelia' sister Janie states, " She died and left it to Delia. It's so unfair. She didn't leave me anything." The "house" was a mental hospital. Cordelia doesn't want to stay in the house because she does not want anything bad to happen to her. They say the place is haunted, "We couldn't even see it online," I said. " The satellite image was all cloudy."(7) Cordelia changes throughout the story because she first was really happy to see the house her aunt left her. Throughout the story she became more cautious of her surroundings and what happened in her house. She went back to see the letters that her aunt wrote to her and see if there was anything strange about them. "I still have her letters. And I'm not being melodramatic. Did she leave a note?"(14)
In the book Blubber, by Judy Blume. The main character is Jill Brener. The confliict is that Linda Fischer is getting bullied by many classmates during class and also when she isn't in class. Towards the end she becomes friends with Wendy. But then again at the end she ends up alone. Wendy, Jill and Caroline make up ideas on how they are going to treat Linda. "Their ideas include tripping, pinching, pushing, shoving, and holding their noses whenever Blubber walks by." (28) Linda does not do anything back because she is shy and timid. The problem is internal and external because they hurt physically and emotionally. By telling her mean names and by pinching her. the proble was not resolved because Linda never did anyting against what they were doing to her. From today and back then there are amny differences in how they resolved, controlled the bullying.
In the book The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket. An important scene in the book is when Count Olaf vanished from the play. "The Baudelaire youngsters looked around and saw that not only had Count Olaf vanished, but his accomplices."(158) The characters don't want to live with him. Violet does not want to marry Count Olaf. The plot takes place towards the falling action. Towards the end of the story Olaf is no where to be found. I think that Olaf will not be found. The Baudelaire children will go live with some other relative. “I’m sorry to tell you this, children, but I cannot allow you to be raised by someone who is not a relative.”(160) The children want to live with Justice Strauss. She was the lawyer that was going to marry Violet and Olaf because she thought it was just a play but it was a real play. The play was set up by Count Olaf because he wants to take all the Baudelaire's fortune.
The main conflict in this story is that the Baudelaire children are living with Count Olaf. Count Olaf is pretending to be their Uncle. They went with him because their parents died in a fire. The problem affects the children because Olaf does not treat them well. Count Olaf is trying to marry Violet. He's going to make a play to get to marry Violet. The play is not fake but they think it's fake. The conflict is external because they are going to fight Olaf. Also internal because they are scared that something could happen to them and get separated. The conflict is personal because it would only affect them and not the rest. They can get separated and lose their fortune. The people would not get affected and nothing would change in their lives but the children it would.
The Baudelaire children are very sad for their loss. It isn't easy for the Baudelaire because they lost both of their parents at the same time and also lost all their possessions. Mr. Poe was who gave them the notice of their parents. Mr.Poe is the banker in charge of the Baudelaire's fortune and the orphan's guardianship. Mr.Poe offered his house for some days until he found a relative of them. The Baudelaire stayed with Mr.Poe for some days and then he found them a relative. The relative was Count Olaf, the villain of the story. Count Olaf lived on the other side of town. The Baudelaire children packed their few belongings and were ready to go to their new guardian's home the next day. The next day Mr.Poe drove them to their new home .When the children got there they saw the prettiest house int he block thinking it was their new home. The lady in the house said,“You must be the children Count Olaf is adopting.”-textual evidence. Justice Strauss was their new neighbor. She said that Count Olaf was her neighbor. The house in which the children were going to live now was stained and not good looking, with big eye carved on the front of the house.
The main characters in the book The Bad Beginning are Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire. Violet Baudelaire is skilled at inventing things and always ties her hair up to think, according to the text "Anyone who knew Violet well could tell she was thinking hard, because her long hair was tied up in a ribbon to keep it out of her eyes. Violet had a real knack for inventing and building strange devices." It means that she is talented at inventing things. Klaus Baudelaire is skilled at research, he read a lot, according to the text "He was intelligent. The Baudelaire parents had an enormous library in their mansion, a room filled with thousands of books on nearly every subject." This shows that he knows a lot since their library nearly has every subject. On the other hand, the youngest Baudelaire, Sunny was good at biting things. According to, the text " She made up for with the size and sharpness of her four teeth." .This explains that she had four sharp teeth. Their parents died in a fire that destroyed their entire mansion. Up to now the characters are sad about what happened to their parents.
